LIVERPOOL BEATLE WEEK Thursday 23 August 2001 Liverpool Town Hall Gala
TOWN HALL, Water Street. Here, standing on the balcony together with Lord Mayor, THE BEATLES received a hero's welcome from tens of thousands of their Merseyside fans on 10 July 1964. Later that evening they attended the nothern première of their first film 'A Hard Day's Night' at the Odeon Cinema in London Road. No Beatle here tonight off course. But nice to stand on same balcony as The Beatles once did and look down at the street. Town Hall is also very beautiful inside. Tonight Cavern City Tours had invited some of the very best Beatle Tribute Bands. Here they are...
CLUBE BIG BEATLES from Brazil returned to Liverpool for their seventh consecutive year. Impressive! A great band!
LOS BEAT 3 are from Venezuela. This was their third consecutive appearance in Liverpool. One of the fans' favourite bands. No wonder, their fusion of Latin American feel and Merseybeat is just terrific! The highlight during the week was their recording-sessions at Abbey Road Studio 2 - The Beatles' studio!
HARD NIGHT'S DAY. This band from Dallas, Texas performed many great songs from the Hamburg days. Like as the 'Live At The BBC' CD's were played - live! But the ultimate highlight was 'Ticket To Ride'!! BOB, DANNY and MARK - you are excellent singers! Just around the corner now, down into THE CAVERN...
COMITATUS. Another Brazilian band. Their second visit to Beatle Week. I just say 'Helter Skelter'!!
MORSA. This band from Mexico was a very positive surprise! They played really good. Both earlier and later hits. It 'yelled' as Macca would have said it! 'Yer Blues' - the ultimate highlight!!! Also COMITATUS and MORSA contributed this year in the recording-sessions at Abbey Road Studio 2 - The Beatles' studio. All photos and text by Bengt Wärmlind.
