LIVERPOOL BEATLE WEEK Friday 22 August 2003 Cavern City Tours 20th
Birthday Bash at Barcelona. Welcome to Cavern City Tours 20th Birthday Bash at The Barcelona...
A real Scouser band now...
Some photos of the wonderful audience...
THE MERSEY BEATLES made incredible success at last year's Mathew Street Festival completely filling Dale Street. They try to sound as much like their heroes as possible and always attempt to bring the spirit of The Beatles in their shows. Being Scousers they don't have any troubles with the accents, and they have been told their personalities are simular to The Fab Four. Time now for one of the very best bands ever, that has performed at Beatle Week...
RINGER comes from Scotland and have been guests of the festival since 1982! This band always give a rocking good show. Excellent musicians and fantastic vocals with marvellous harmonies. Current members are Ian Murdoch, Willie Hastie, Gregor Philp and Chris Marra. And this afternoon we celebrated their 20 years in Liverpool, also with some old members.
Evening now. We go to the...
CHANTAL. This German group consists of classically trained muscians. As well as the more traditional acoustic guitar and bass, drums, violin and flute, Chantal specialise in playing on a wide rage of ancient musical instruments. They visited Cavern Club in February, where they recorded a show for German TV. They also recently recorded a CD in Abbey Road Studios. We got a very entertaining show from these skilful musicians, thank you!
LAWRENCE GILMOUR have spent the last few years astounding audiences in America with his likeness to Paul McCartney. Welcome back to Liverpool, Lawrence! Welcome on stage now - THE BLACK OLIVES!!
BLACK OLIVES are well-known to regular Beatle Week attendees by their former name The Flying Postmen. This Moldavian band is one of our favourites. This year the group has released their second original CD, 'How About', containing 13 self-penned songs. And tonight we got an excellent concert, as always. So nice to see their joy on stage! The members are Emil Bojescu (guitar), Andrei Nicula (bass), Tom Jaworski (lead guitar) and Mircea Sturza (drums). The evening's main attraction now - 'Macca Over Merseyside'!!!
BANNED ON THE RUN with members Bob Bartey, Marc Mowforth, Kev and Sean Fitzpatrick was joined by a number of famous people this evening. 'Macca Over Merseyside' was an unforgettable event celebrating the many greatest hits of Paul McCartney's post-Beatles projects, featuring musicians who have worked with Paul from the 70's right through to 1999.
Here you can see Henry
playing his classical guitar-solo in 'My
Love' (Sorry for the bad photo-quality, guys! But the flash of my small compact camera is too weak for such a long distance. I'm not a professional photographer. If you had stepped forward just once, the result would have been much better. )
WILL LEE, well-known from The Fab Faux off course, gave us a powerful version of the Bond theme 'Live And Let Die' supported by the horn-section lead by the legendary HOWIE CASEY. Will joined Paul McCartney playing bass and providing backing vocals at the star-studded Concert For New York City on 20 October 2001 at Madison Square Garden.
CHRIS HALL played his accordian on the track, 'Brown Eyed Handsome Man', on PAUL McCARNEY's 'Run Devil Run' album in Abbey Road Studios in 1999. And 14 december 1999 the band played the now historic Cavern show. With his love for Cajun music we got a great show tonight!
STEVE HOLLEY was member of the Wings 1978-1981. Played on 'Back To The Egg' sessions including the legendary 'Rockestra' in October 1978, featuring stars like Pete Townsend, Kenny Jones, Hank Marvin, Ray Cooper, Dave Gilmour, John Paul Jones, John Bonham, Gary Brooker and Ronnie Lane. (Sorry for the bad picture, Steve! But my camera-flash is too weak for such a long distance.) We go to The Adelphi and Fab Friday. Waves Bar first...
LENNY PANE have since long a reputation of being one of the best Beatle Tribute Bands in the world. As you can see the reputation also had reached The Fab Faux with Jack Petruzzelli and Frank Agnello making a visit. Jack really enjoyed Olle's version of 'Oh Darling' - one of Jack's own show-pieces.
LENNY PANE have appeared at the convention at nine occasions. They come from Göteborg, Sweden. The members are Micke Isacson (guitars and keyboards), Göran Ihrfelt (bass, guitars & keyboards), Johan Strömberg (bass, vocals & guitars) and Benny Carlsson (drums & vocals). This year they were supported by Olle Bengtsson (vocals & much more) and Krister Andersson (guitars). We rush to Friday's Bar...
CLUBE BIG BEATLES - one our favourite bands! All the way from Brazil. This year they made their ninth consecutive at Beatle Week! And tonight we got a GREAT concert with many of The Beatles' best songs. I even managed to fetch a T-shirt. We'll come back tomorrow!
Time to ROCK now...
ROCKS OFF!!! This band from Sweden are rated as the best Rolling Stones cover band in Europe and are now among our top favourites. Tony Johnson (Mick Jagger), Roger Mikander (Keith Richards), Lars Elf (Brian Jones), Torgny Ehrieder (Bill Wyman) and Pär Lilja (Charlie Watts) rocked our asses off!
Time for a guest on stage...
With the guest-appearance of TONY SKEGGS (ex-member of The Overtures) this became an unforgettable Rocks Off gig. "Our best ever", they told us afterwards. But more was to come... All photos and text by Bengt Wärmlind. This page updated 30th April 2004.
