LIVERPOOL BEATLE WEEK Sunday 29 August 2004 Mathew Street Music
Festival.
We return to our friends at Pier Head...
ROCKS OFF - another great concert. And we were lucky. A few minutes earlier a roaring hailstorm passed the River Mersey. We go to the Adelphi...
First an interview with an American legend...
SID BERNSTEIN is one of the men that brought The Beatles to America. First he booked them for two concerts, 12 February 1964, in the legendary Carnegie Hall, New York City. Then he promoted the legendary concerts at Shea Stadium, New York City on Sunday, 15 August 1965 and Tuesday, 23 August 1966. The first in front a huge audience of 56,000 people. The audience in 1966 wasn't that bad either - 45,000. A big figure even today.
First an interesting and generous interview, excellently conducted by Spencer Leigh...
RUSTY ANDERSON was a very nice and gentle person. He told us many interesting stories from his latest tours with Paul McCartney. Music now...
RUSTY and his band performed fantastic versions of the songs from his CD 'Undressing Underwater'. The CD is superb in itself. But the semi-acoustic versions today gave a new dimension. So beautifully played! We lined up for signing party. Here's the result...
This must be the worst photo in the whole website! (Sorry Rusty, but this is the only one I've got!) I became a little excited to meet you again after our nice meeting in Gothenburg 11 June this year. So I forgot at first that a Spanish friend had promised to take a photo of us two together. After a few seconds I rushed back and asked him to take the photo above. Rusty looking so nice on every other photo, was a bit surprised as you can see. Please accept my apology, Rusty! But what did I hold in my hand?
Rusty
became very happy over the photos I gave him from his exclusive unplugged
gig in Gothenburg 11 June 2004. And yes, now I've got my photo signed as
well! You will find all photos from the Gothenburg gig at the A nice meeting with two of our ROCKS OFF friends...
We go to the Pierce Suite at the Adelphi...
THE REPEATLES. Another great concert off course! Same high quality as last Friday. We rushed to the Cavern Club...
THE MERSEYBEAT LEGENDS was a brilliant group from the UK, not only performing hits by The Beatles, but also many hits by legendary Mersey Beat groups like Gerry & The Pacemakers, The Swinging Blue Jeans and The Searchers. Member Yanni Tsamplakos even played at the original Cavern in 1964 with his group The Seftons.
ROCKS OFF - here we are again!!! And this time just in front of the legendary tiny stage! A remarkable concert! Even better than last year. Enjoy the photos!
TONY JOHNSON showed his skill as harmonica-player in many blues numbers during Beatle Week. 'Little Red Rooster' - Pure magic!!!
The photo above is my best ever!!! See how proud Tony is over his new silver jacket! And Lars looking so beautiful with his guitar! And the reflections in the guitar and mic-stand!!! A second of luck!
LAURIE, the greatest Rock Off fan of them all. In great competition with me and Ulla!
SYMPATHY FOR THE DEVIL. This was totally crazy! First all the half-naked men - Tony and a bunch of happy Liverpudlians. Then a pint of beer landing in my neck! Directly followed by a shower from Tony's Beck's bottle - right into my face! And all the sweat-dripping boys! A moment of total happiness! Thank y'all!
STEVIE P - you must be the best compere in universe! Your 12th Beatle Week and more enthusiastic than ever! You (and Neil B) are the best!! All photos and text by Bengt Wärmlind.
