LIVERPOOL BEATLE WEEK Monday 31 August 1998 Beatles
Walk in Liverpool
Mount Street was the place of LIVERPOOL INSTITUTE -"THE INNIE". The school of PAUL McCARTNEY and GEORGE HARRISON 1953-1959. Today it's the place of Liverpool's "School of Fame" LIPA - LIVERPOOL INSTITUTE OF PERFORMING ARTS. This has been made possible through Paul McCartney's interest and donations. The whole school is renovated now. Only the front is intact. Next door to LIPA we return to...
LIVERPOOL COLLEGE OF ART was the school of JOHN LENNON 1957-1960. Also the school of STU SUTCLIFFE, "The fifth Beatles" and member of the group in the early 60's.
Seel Street is the place of the BLUE ANGEL CLUB. On 10 May 1960 THE SILVER BEETLES auditioned here for London rock impresario LARRY PARNES. The group didn't pass the audition. But Larry later hired them for a tour in Scotland with one of his other stars, JOHNNY GENTLE. In 1961 the club was run by ALLAN WILLIAMS, then The Beatles' manager.

Slater Street was
the place of the JACARANDA COFFEE BAR owned by The Beatles' manager then -
ALLAN WILLIAMS. The Beatles played here several times in
1960. And now it was time for the MATHEW STREET FESTIVAL with LENNY PANE!! We go to North John Street.
LENNY PANE made an EXCELLENT concert -as always. And look at the audience!
And now - to the ADELPHI HOTEL and the BEATLE CONVENTION.
Now a SHORT nap at the hotel before the GRAND FINAL at the ADELPHI with LENNY PANE! But before that a stop at the local pub.
We had to leave the pub, otherwise we and the crazy Englishmen would have torn it to pieces! Thank you Liverpool for all your generousity! Especially the little girl of 84, sing-along leader of this Ringo classic!
LENNY PANE finished THE ALBUM CONVENTION at the ADELPHI with a brilliant performance of the 'ABBEY ROAD' album. Here you can see OLLE BENGTSSON doing the BEST performance he has ever made of 'OH! DARLING'. For 12 hours the audience could hear EVERY Beatles album from 'PLEASE PLEASE ME' to 'ABBEY ROAD'. All photos and text by Bengt Wärmlind
