LIVERPOOL BEATLE WEEK

Monday 30 August 1999

YELLOW SUBMARINE DAY
At the Yellow Submarine Stage.
World-premičre of the newly enhanced
Yellow Submarine film and songtrack
with LENNY PANE.

TOWN HALL
, Water Street. Here, standing on the balcony together with Lord Mayor, THE BEATLES received a hero's welcome from tens of thousands of their Merseyside fans on10 July 1964. Later that evening they attended the nothern premičre of their first film 'A Hard Day's Night' at the Odeon Cinema in London Road.

Today, on Yellow Submarine Day, US Postal Service's Vice President DEBORAH WILLHITE officially announced the US Yellow Submarine stamp, and a huge poster of the artifact was hung across The Town Hall's balcony.

THE BLUE MEANIE launched the Beatles Festival on the Yellow Submarine stage in Castle Street, just in front of the Town Hall. Sweating under the heavy Blue Meanie costume was actor PAUL ANGELIS, the voice of the original Chief Meanie from the film.

Clube Big Beatles

CLUBE BIG BEATLES from Brazil made another great performance at the Yellow Submarine stage. Their version of 'Come Together' was excellent with wonderful solos on guitar and bass.

The Fab Faux

THE FAB FAUX from New York again! The street is crowded! All want to see one of the best bands during the whole Beatle Week. When they played 'Everybody's Got Something To Hide Except Me And My Monkey', I and Bosse almost blew over! What a band!

EMI and Apple gave away 5000 Yellow Submarine caps in Castle Street to the audience. Here you can see the result:

THE BEATS from Argentina. These Beatles lookalikes have become the public's favourites. Look for yourself, and you will understand!

And now to the highlight of the whole week!

Ulla and Bosse outside Philharmonic Hall

PHILHARMONIC HALL, Hope Street was the place of the WORLD-PREMIČRE of the newly enhanced YELLOW SUBMARINE film and songtrack. In presence of Sir GEORGE MARTIN, NEIL ASPINALL and GEOFF BAKER from Apple, John Lennon's sister JULIA BAIRD and others, we attended the world-premičre of this wonderful film. Now restored with bright vivid colours and an amazing new soundtrack in Dolby Surround 5.1.

After the film LENNY PANE from Sweden, presented as "one of the world's top tribute bands", played the new 'YELLOW SUBMARINE SONGTRACK' album live - two weeks before it was available in the shops. And the whole event was organised by Apple, EMI, Capitol Records, MGM Films and Cavern City Tours! Very honourable for Lenny Pane!

Lenny Pane

With two Hofner basses LENNY PANE gave an outstanding performance of 'THINK FOR YOURSELF'.

Lenny Pane and Gary Gibson

GARY GIBSON made a guest-appearance with 'HEY BULLDOG' and 'LUCY IN THE SKY'. Their version of 'Bulldog' was the BEST we heard during the whole Beatle Week!

Lenny Pane and Indian musicians

MARTIN HAMRÉN sang a wonderful version of 'LOVE YOU TOO' together with three excellent Indian musicians.

Clarinets & Lenny Pane

GÖRAN IHRFELDT and three Liverpool clarinets made a great performance of 'WHEN I'M SIXTY-FOUR'.

Sitting on the first row, we saw a Beatles tribute-concert, that must be UNSURPASSED in the world up to date! Accompanied by horns, Indian instruments, clarinets, violins, etc, LENNY PANE performed a concert, that will be a memory of a lifetime for all who attended! "This is the BEST I've ever heard! You must be very proud", an American lady told us. And yes, we were!
